Editorial standards

Every guide on SpectrumFox follows the same rules, so you can tell what comes from published research, what comes from autistic people describing their own lives, and what is our own practical advice.

Three labels on every claim that matters

  • Research: what published studies or official health bodies say, with a link to the source.
  • Lived experience: what autistic adults describe about their own lives, labeled as perspective rather than evidence.
  • Editorial: our own practical suggestions, offered as suggestions.

Language

We default to identity-first language ("autistic adults") and acknowledge that some people prefer person-first language. We never describe autism as something people suffer from, and we do not use functioning labels. Asperger's is explained as history and as an identity some people still use, not as a current diagnosis.

What we never publish

  • Invented statistics, studies, testimonials, reviews, ratings or user counts.
  • Claims that the assessment is validated, clinical, diagnostic or accurate.
  • Any statement that a reader is or is not autistic, or how likely that is.
  • Promotions of clinics, providers or products.
  • Text copied or closely paraphrased from books, other tests or other websites.

Safety

Pages about burnout, meltdowns, shutdowns, mental health or crisis show crisis resources. If you are in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, call or text 988 in the US, call Samaritans on 116 123 in the UK, or find a helpline at https://findahelpline.com.
